Hello Everyone!!!
So glad to have found this forum!!! :)

Anyways, quick question: my albino cory's spawned (i think 2 of them did!!)...

Eggs collected etc etc...

I've been looking everywhere for info about VIABLE eggs....i understand that milky white is not good....but some of the eggs are a bit beige with a white crescent in them......the thing is that coz' they are albino would they not be white anyways???.....i know i've read somewhere that a black dot should appear ...but is that for peppered cories only????

oh i hope some of them are viable :(

Save as many as you can within the next 24hours you'll be able to tell if they are viable or not if you notice any growing fungus then remove them or it will spread to any that are clustered next to it . Make sure they have good airflow under them but not too much

If they are viable egg's you'll be able to see little cory fry wriggling in the egg's in around 48 hours and they should hatch within 3-5 days from being laid !!

Congrats !!!

Thanks Kizz...
i've already isolated them in a breeding tank...
some look fully white and most of them look like they've got a white crescent in a jelly ball (if you know what i mean!!!!) i collected them yesterday morning.....

here's hoping they hatch!!!

Hi josim :)

Congratulations on the spawn!

Out of any normal batch of eggs, there will be some chance that a number of them are infertile. There is also a chance of damage when they are moved. Nevertheless, you will have some survive and hatch for you. Beige is a good color. The eggs will also have a firm and healthy look about them.

What are your plans to feed and house these soon-to-be fry?

Thanks inchworm!
I'm hoping to feed them crushed flakes....i heard that they are ok.....also heard of liquidfry but i gotta buy that....
just a waiting game now!!! how exciting!!! hehe....
will keep you informed!!!....roll on the days!!!!!!

I'm so excited for you!! I love the Albino Cory's & the fry will be so cute. Good luck! I would take the time waiting for the eggs to hatch to maybe hatch some baby brine shrimp or start a small worm culture, where abouts are you? You can normally find cultures for things like banana worms on ebay.

I'm not clued up on the specific needs of Corydora fry, but most tiny fry will eat live foods better than crushed dry foods.

Hi josim :)

Cory fry are rather small when they first hatch. After the first day or so, when they have absorbed their yolk sacs, the will need very small food. Care must also be taken so that excess food does not spoil and pollute the water. This is often a problem with LiquiFry.

One way to begin is to rinse out a filter over the newly hatched fry. They will be able to eat microorganisms in it for the first week or more. By this time they will have grown considerably and be able to eat microworms, baby brine shrimp, and even some finely crushed flakes.

Next in importance is doing regular partial water changes. This will keep the tank healthy and promote good growth among the fry.

well it's not looking good :(
most of them are white and some of them have a white crescent.....i know thats not a good thing.....

ohh :( i wanted little albino babies!!! *sigh*

Hi josim :)

Give them time to hatch. While almost every batch has some eggs go bad, some are sure to survive. Don't give up until the eggs are actually soft and fuzzy. If that happens, then we can try to figure out what went wrong.

In any event, now that you know your corys are spawning, you can probably look forward to them doing it again before too long.

With babies, would something like a bristlenose be ok in the tank with them? At least then it could eat any left over food and stop it spoiling. I have never known them to eat baby fish as long as they are able to swim away. Just trying to think outside the box a little.

Advised not to, Plecs will eat anythink they come across and beens cory's are bottom dwellers they will constantly be under threat if the bristlenose happens to pass over them... you may lose more than you raise basically :(

well.......none of them were viable.....

oh well..lets hope they spawn again soon and fertilise the eggs this time!!!!!

thanks for all your help everyone :)
