Hey evryone,

thought i'd share some pics of my first ever batch of eggs, hopefully to soon be fry!!

I spotted them on the tank glass last night just before doing my water change and couldn't believe it!!

There must have been around 100 eggs, from what i've read some are fertilised and some might not be.

I've rescued as many as i can and put them into a small plastic containder that i've floated in the top of my tank with the tube from my air pump inserted in the water to have movement. I've also put a couple of my trumpet snails in to clear any nasty eggs away (at tip from a specific cory breeder) and have kept the lights off to promote hatching (another tip). Also a drop each (from a pipette) of melafix and anti fungus and finrot to try and stave off any diseases.

Does this sound ok to you guys?

Any further advice would be much appreciated!!

love

Ales

sit back and wait for 3-5 days........ then the fun begins. have you got any microworm for them when they hatch? if not get some ordered and nip out and get some liquirfy for egg layers to tide them over.

Yeh i'll have to get over to my lfs ASAP! i'm so excited, but soo nervous, anyone else like this with their first babies??

tbh, i screwed up my first 2 spawns. First lot i removed the parents and left the eggs in there. however, i didnt know how weak they would be and they all got sucked into the filter and killed. I couldnt figure out where they were all going! i would count them every morning and a few more would be missing. was really frustrating until someone mentioned it on here and i then figured where they had gone. :/

2nd lot, i grew about 20 on and after a month i put them in my LB grown out tank. another fatal move... for them!! they all got eaten. so i though right, nuts to it and set up a hatchery. Since them i havent looked back.

I personally dont bother with anti fungus treatement. I just make sure the sponge filters( not power filters lol) cause enough surface movement to encourge overall water movement. i lose very few to fungus. I lose more from the parents eating them !

I've got a 12 gal tank in the kitchen which i've had set up for ages and currently houses 4 male guppies. I'm goin to transfer them back into the main tank and put the babies in there once they're big enough to fend for themselves.

Do you think they'd be ok to go in after a couple of weeks, they'll be in there on their own, so no-one to eat them.

put them in now... wont be a problem at all. let them hatch in there. whenever my corys spawn i remove the eggs pretty much within a few minutes and stick them in the hatchery :)

will it be better to acclimatise the eggs to the new tank or wait till until they hatch?

Great Photo Can Really see the difference between fertile and infertile.
thanks, the paler ones are the ones the parents tried to eat!, so they're basically empty egg cases.

No sign of any hatchers yet, but i'm hopeful about the ones i've rescued, seeing as they are a kind of beige color rather than white. :good:

I'm keeping a close eye on thm at the moment because i'm off work with the 'flu.

Proper 'flu, not the 'i can't be bothered to go to work today 'cos i've got a cold' type 'flu

i'll keep you guys informed with any new developments

i dont personally, i just take them out and place them in the hatchery. the temps are around the same anyway in the 2 tanks of mine and i have never had any problems. then again, im no expert, i just know what i know.

WEll guys I dont think this is going to work out the way I wanted

had a peek at the eggs this morning and did the water change in the tub. but they have all turned opaque and white and there seems to be some 'mould-like' hairs growing on some of them.

I'm so upset cos i was really looking forward to having some baby albino's

O well, i suppose i'll just have to have another go!!

thanks for all your help chaps
:-(

Remove the hairy (fungused) eggs, and leave the others. It could be that these will still hatch, but you must remove the fungused eggs asap to help prevent the fungus spreading to the other eggs.

WEll that's that, they all went bad so i had to get rid of them.

I'm so gutted, especially as I did everything I knew about to try and keep them alive :(

O well, better luck next time.

All I have to do now is to get them to spawn again!!
