9ol planted tank, my airstone is noisy got a friend who says he doesnt hear a thing from his tank why does mine sound so noisy, is there anything i can do to funnel the water to the top like some pipework or will that affect the water.
i tried burying the airstone and covering it in stones and even turning it down at the pump its still really noisy whether i use a disk airstone or long thin one
its like the noise of a kettle boiling ALL day

Is your airstone running a filter? If it's not and you have another sort of iflter then you don't really need an airstone at all. Just make sure that your filter is causing a few ripples on the water's surface and it'll be fine.

really no air at all the filter is a fluval 90 internal and if i was to turn the air off i would have to see that it dispersed surface water ? is this ok

Yes, it'll be fine. It's actually quite rare for a tank to ever get short of oxygen, unless something goes badly wrong. As long as the water is moving round the tank it's not normally something you have to worry about.

ill have a go at knocking it off then and see if the filter is able to move the surface water
just so noisy! thanks

You're welcome; I have four tanks and none of them have any kind of air stone running in them :)

update on this then have removed the airline and instead changed the setting on the fluval u2 internal filter to the a setting which now filters the water but then pumps clean water out of the top spray hole so as to disperse and oxygenate the surface
its brilliant no more bubbles sound
thanks!
