Air Stone Problem

i only keep my pump on when im in the room or when im at home most of the day, i turn it of at night

and i have a small one way valve just coming out of the pump just stops water going into the unit

thinking on this. would it not be better to put the pump, above the water level? this would mean that you need no, none return valve(restricts flow). plus you would not have to push the head of water, caused by the syphon action. so, in theory, would it not allow our pumps to deliver more air for any given pump capacity?

It sure would but there's that little problem of gravity :p The only place "above" the tank is on the tank but i) that's really noisy and ii) inconvenient. Tucked away in the cabinet is much better/quieter/out of the way =)
