I've just ordered a new Rena tank (around 380 litres) and was wondering which air pump would be best to go with it. I'd just be using the air pump for air stones so do I really need to get one of the larger air pumps? For example, I've noticed Rena do 5 different air pumps in different sizes but was wondering if I really need more of the bigger (and more expensive) pumps if I'm only going to be use it for air stones (as opposed to a filter or something like that).

I'm happy to spend the cash if necessary but just want to make sure I'm not buying something I don't need. Also, can anybody recommend a particular brand/model of air pump

Thanks

We've got a 137G Rena tank that we run two airstones in. We use the Rena Air 400 and it does a great job! :good:

With adequate surface movement, (say from a filter), airstones are un-necessary. Of course, many people like to see the bubbles, so by all means have one if you wish, just don't be fooled into thinking you have to have one. When I used them for air driven UGF's, I often used Rena AP's because they were pretty reliable, fairly quiet, and the spare parts were easy to get hold of.
