Air Pump/stone Questions.

Is it the pump that is making the noise or the bubbles?

Definately the airstone that creates the size of the bubbles. If you mean there is too many bubbles then you can get a inline tap on the airline and slow down the flow.

The size of the bubbles can be changed by the grade of the air stone further more the flow of air out of the stone can be throttled with a simple adjustable valve that you can get in any LFS

TOP TIP get a one way valve in your air line to stop any water creep back if the pump goes of, also available at any good LFS :good:

Each air stone will produce its own characteristic bubble size. The ones I have used that produce the finest mist of bubbles were the porous wood ones. They are basically a piece of wood with a hole bored down the middle and using the wood's pores to dispense the bubbles. The next smallest bubbles came from plastic porous devices that were designed to give very small bubbles. The air stones made from compressed sand or glass particles vary a lot in bubble size but can run from fairly small to quite large bubbles. The air pump capacity tends to change the number of bubbles you will get, not their size.
