Well its a simple question this time around. Tonight I decided to alter the air tubing in my tank and when I touched the air tubing there was a slime surface on them. Now I would have figued that this is normal in a tank with fish but my tank is still cycling and has no fish in there.

Is this just grime from the tap water?

Is it something else?

For those that want a description, when you touch the stuff it peels away like skin and floats around in the water quite gracefully...

Thanks for any suggestions! :)

Which part of the air tubing that have the slime on? the part of the tube that is soak in the water or expose to the air? How long have you been cycling the tank?

Through your description I assume that it is expose to the air. And I guess it is dirt, from the water.

It's just from the water. My tanks get it all the time.
My guppies will peck at the stuff... but once a week I'll have to take out the things tht have the gunk on it (pretty much anything that's soft plastic... airtube, suction cups, etc) and scrub it off in some discarded tank water.

I got some on my suction cups too of my heater and filter. Guess its natural.

Didnt know you had to take it out thought and scrape it off, i read just to rub it off in the water and itl disappear quite quickly by itself.

Eh.. I'd rather get the stuff out of the tank instead of letting it float and pretty much ending back up where you scrubbed it off ya know? Plus when it flakes off... good lord it makes a huge mess and looks so gross heh.
