Ive just noticed an unwanted guest in my tank! it must have come from one of the bags when i bought my fish. Its currently on my air line, and i dont have a clue what it is!

I will attempt pictures to morrow.

Heres alittle description:
Sort of see through shell, 2little pointy things coming from what looks like its head and it looks like a mini worm inside, it looks RANK. Its about 3mm long.

Any ideas?

Is it going to harm my tank?

AHHH IM SCARED.

:dunno: :/

Snail :)
Won't harm your tank, but you may get lots of em :)
Sorry, i gathered it was a snail, im just scared it may mess up my tank or something. Shall i flick it on the floor of the tank? currently its about 1 foot off the tank floor, and it must have been there for about 24hours.

calm down ;)

just take the snail out. it won't do too much harm :dunno: but might eat plants, and reproduces quickly, which can look pretty ugly when the whole tank is covered in snails. :/ watch out, there might be more of them.

If you start to notice more snails (which you probably will) go get a medium size clown loach. They eat snails! I tried this when I found a bunch of snails starting to reproduce in my 20gal tank and now there are none. You won't see the clown loach too often as it is nocturnal but they work great!!!

I love clown loaches, but they just get way to big, and my tank is abit over stocked at the moment as it is lol.

AND they need shoals. ;)

have you taken it out corrosive? if more appear we shall have to think of a new plan *contemplates*

Keep picking them out. You may be lucky and keep on top of them this way. If not, put a piece of cucumber into your tank over night and they should all congregate on it by morning.

Thanks, ive taken two of them out, but the other one (the first 1 in the tank) was smart and went inside the airline, as a retreat, so i had to put the airline on... When he shot out i lost him lmao.

Zebra Loaches work great for taking care of snails (they remain about 4 inches max). My husband's 10 gal had a huge population problem, and my 37 gal was just getting started on the problem...but within 2 days both tanks had no snails in sight. And, it's rather fun to gravel vacuum the tank and notice tons of empy snail shells. :)

As stated above, snails are somewhat harmless. They're pretty good algae eaters, but will soon leave any algae eating fish you have without food. Also, if there's a huge die-off of the snail population, they can quickly make the tank's water toxic from the large amounts of protein inside of them. So, keeping them under control is a must.

Controlling snail populations is a matter of controlling their food source. Tanks that are overrun with snails are usually overfed and undercleaned. Clean the substrate more frequently, and feed smaller amounts, and snails will never get out of hand. I have 3 large ponds snails in a 5 gallon tank with 4 cherry barbs. The only time they even lay eggs is when I'm gone and have someone else feed the tank.

I dont get this why does eveyone except me seem to get snails when they buy plants. The only snails in my lfs are the ones in the apple snail tank they have no snails at all in any of the plant tanks or any of the other tanks.

Yeh, at my lfs, they only have apple snails, and they dont have any on there plants, but i went to a different fish shop, and got a few fish, and there must have been a couple with them.. as there was a bit of gravel in the bags :(.
