This morning I was watching my fish after I fed them because I didnt have to go to school till 12. Well I noticed that one of my Dwarf Gouramis had these little white spots no bigger then a granual of salt on its fins, little feeler things, and body.

IS THIS ICH?!?!?!?!?!? What should I do? If this is Ich, a book i have gave me directions on what to do but i want to hear you guys feed back too. I was thinking i could put him in another tank i have and give him a salt bath and put some icg medicine in my other tank to prevent it. My other fish dont have any symptoms yet. However, this tank i was going to put my Ich fish in doesnt have a heater, filter, or air pump. I know there are small heaters and i might be able to get one.

Please help!!! I need to know what to do and if this is ICH or not!!! -_-

I dont know my water parameters.
I usually do 25% water changes but since i got my new tank I havnt changed the water yet. ( I got the new tank last weekend)
I add this stuff to take the Chlorine out of the water but i don't know the name of it at the moment.
There are 2 guppies both male, and 2 dwarf gouramis both male.
The gallon I have right now is 10 gallons.
I just added the new Gouramis on friday and I added new live plants too but i dont know the names of them at the moment either.

I hope that information helps. I am currently at school and I get out at 3 but i am staying after till 4 so thats when i will be able to respond again.

HELP!! Thanks!!!!!

the first thing you do is raise the temp. to 85 degrees and add some salt. With every fish that I have ever had i found out this is all you have to do to get rid of ich. I found out that you dont need any medicine at all if you do what I told you the parasite cant survive at the 85 degree temp. and it only takes two days to kill it out this way.I dont know if people will agree with me or not but try this and see if you dont have real good results. I have been keeping fish for over two years now and since I have been treating ich this way I havent lost not one fish.

I just a a teaspoon per gallon you dont have any scaless fish do you like tetras or plecos or corys and so on. because if you do do not add the salt just raise the temp.the salt will kill the scaless fish. I hope this works out for you but if you do as I said it will. Let me know what happens ok. I wish you well in your fish keeping hobbie it sure has been a great hobbie for me I love taking care of them and learning more everyday about them.

i got ick or ich too, however its spelled. this extreme temperature wont kill the fish will it? i've been keeping my tank at around 76-79. this is what my fish like and are comfortable with. will going to 85 hurt them?

Yes, i looked up how much to put in, in the book i have and it said a teaspoon per gallon too so i did that!! Right now im trying to get my temperature up, right now its at about 83.

Well I have my whole family in an uproar and they are wondering the same thing as meatball. They keep making jokes about it too -.-. So it would be helpful if you reassured us that we wont have boiled fish in the morning .

Also, what exactly does ICH come from? How does it form? My dad swears up and down that it came from the petstores and we should just get our fish from wal*mart but i dont think it came from the fish at all.

Thanks gain for all of your help!! I'll be sure to let you know how it works out!!! And if I need any further help!! Hehe :p

hahaha, im an idiot and i even know not to do that. table salt is iodized. i know you dont want that, dont know what to tell ya to do with it tho

:-( :-( :-( . Uh oh..whats gonna happen now? :byebye:

How was i supposed to know we werent supposed to add salt?! They just said "salt" We have no other salt in the house and i didnt think you added salt you put on the porch for when it gets icy! SO WHAT SALT IS IT?!

Ooh I'm a fish killer x.x :-( :-(

go to your lfs and buy your "salt" there. they will only have one kind

Hmm...well Oscar that souds reasonable. I think i may start the water changes, like change bit each day. However my temperature doesnt seem to be staying at 85. It gets cold in my house at night so it went down to 78 -.-. My plan is that im going to turn my heater half way up all day and leave the light o since it kinda heats the water. Then at night ill turn it all the way up when i turn my light off.

I start changing small bits of water. Hopefully ill be rid of my ICH soon  . And that i wont cook my fish lol.
