So, earlier tonight my mom had taken me on a walk around the yard. So we were heading for our driveway (which is small around a path leading in the partial woods, which we had just taken) and someone else was walking with a dog. Our kitten was behind us. The dog noticed the kitten and ran after her which drove her up a tree. It took an hour to get her down before I pulled down a branch off of the tree (she was at about 20 feet, she was 10-15 then) and he managed to grab her.

It conclusion, here's my opinion about what happened:
When you're taking a dog around a walk and get near other properties, make sure your dog is near. That particular dog had wandered off WITHOUT A LEASH and attacked the cat. If you're gonna have a dog that chases cats at least put on a lease.

Or, you could just teach the freaking dog to not chase cats? :shout:

Sorry, rant over.

Humm, this was a public place? off the road? So will you be keeping your kitten on a lead too then? that way, you'd have been able to pick her up when you saw the dog coming.

No, it was a private place, they were actually on our property and the dog was not leashed. The cat had a collar on, I would have picked her up but it was dark and I couldn't see the dog coming until he actually barked. But I odn't know if the cat will ever go outside again after that.

Then that truely sucks.

I wish you could still shoot people that invade your property. grumble grumble grumble.

I know. :grr: If it wasn't a sharp corner I could have seen the dog coming, but unfortunately it kinda of popped up before I could grab the kitty. I told my mom if that happened in public street and the kitten was a dog I could have called the ASPCA. Maan I hate neighbors.

A Long time ago our neighbours nephew and neice boght their dog over. Huge longhaired Alsation
He obeyed them without a doubt and if they said bark he would go nuts and he jumped the wall and was almost in the house had my om no nitced. She slammed the Veranda door and yo could see him jumping at the door.
Know if there dog had been injured by my mum slamming the dorr in its facw we would have been sued by them for any Vet Costs. So my Mum went upsatirs and chucked water on him. Screameda t teh kids go get you mum and dad and i will hammer them for letting you kids bring such a large dog out on you own.
They never did fetch their rents - My mums an intimidating figure all 5ft of her.

After wards when i would meet the dog with the kids in the field it was a big soppy alsation.

I work for the local government here in the UK and it is law that ALL dogs must be on a lead at all times. Check with your local Dog Warden in your area and find out the laws, if you know who the person is then give them an address and they will pay them a nice little visit. Otherwise I suggest Pepper spray. One dose and BAM he will think twice before attacking your cat again. I am originally from South Carolina and I know it differs from state to state but I am almost certain that there will be a law prohibiting dogs from being free to roam around. Hope this helps.

I don't think that's right. Dogs must wear a collare with an ID tag at all times in a public place, but there is nothing to specify they must be on a lead. They must be under proper control - but that does not have to mean on a lead. There are certain areas specified by local authorities that are dog-free zones, or lead only zones, areas such as kids parks, some housing estates and cemetaries etc. Also, any field containing livestock - then the farmer can shoot your dog at any time even if it is just walking beside you off the lead. They must be on a lead by a road, according to the Highway Code and associated bylaws.

I would be interested to see evidence of the dogs-off-leads ban, web link perhaps?. I looked it up myself and the last amendment that I can find made in June 2006 did not state they must be on a lead at all times.

I wouldn't see it as such a problem if the dog was just on a walk, but however this dog does, and previously has intruded into our yard. It was proven he could kill a chicken, so why couldn't he kill a cat? One day my older cat came home with a wound on her tail which I still believe was that dog. In general I don't feel safe with my cats running around anymore but fortunately the weather is beginning to get colder and the cats are coming inside.

Grrrr I would be so mad  . My cats are my babies! They are part of the family. I hate it when people dont put there dogs on a leash! Theres a leash law you know! But any way I am glad you got the poor kitten down! :D

That is awful. :( Poor kitty.

Have you spoken to your neighbours?

My dogs are little sooky spaniels but are always on a lead because you never know when a dog will decide to go from sook to psycho.

I haven't spoken to the neighbors. It wouldn't do any good. All of our neighbors have never listened to any advice, or should I say none of our neighbors ever listened to our advice? Except for one, and she keeps her spazzy-boston terriers on leads. :good:

Well, at least the woman with the Bostons has some sense. The others sound rather like jerks. :p
