I have a small sized(3 inch) lionhead goldfish who is currently living peacefully with a needlenose gar. Although the gar and the goldfish get along fine, when i put the feeder fish in to feed the gar, the goldfish immedieatly attacks them and eats them before the gar gets a chance. Any help as to why this fish is so aggressive? :S

Goldfish are carp and apex predators........ These fish aren't the best tankmates with each other. Gars are tropical, Goldfish are coldwater/semi-tropical, both are aggressive predators that will eat each other if given the chance, both come from different habitats and both grow large. They can be kept together but its not really a pairing I would choose, each to their own :)
