hey everyone, im looking to get a chiclid to keep by itself in my 77 gal tank, id like to get something aggressive but with personality. im semi familiar with cichlids and im thinking of going with a red devil, but only becouse of what ive read on the web, is there anything else i shoud like at.

some of the other cichlids i thought of

jag - was interested until my friends 12 inch jag got killed by a little 2 inch jewel
dovii - to big
flowerhorn - cant find them where i live

A 12inch jag got killed by a 2inch jewel
Are you sure?did it die of something else and it got attacked wilst dieing?
My old male jag was 11inches and the meanest son of a fish around, would go crazy if i stuck in the syphon would attack attack attack, didnt acept any tank mate's ehat so ever, i tried salvini another aggressive cichlid, midas, green terror, vieja bifa, and he terrorised everyone, but dam was he a sexy fish, i miss him.......

yeah, after two days they had to be seperated and the jag eventually died. jag had no fins left and swam up side down, there was one at the local petstore aswell that was really big and the owner of the store claimed it was getting picked on by a smaller fish, not that it matter tho where he is going in a tank by himself. how was the jag for personallity, i like how the red devs have no fear, how they come right to the front of the tank ready to deffend its territory when anyone is around.

Whats the dimensions of the tank?

Red devils will work, and you'll probably get a confident personable fish.
Other suggestions could be midas cichlid, female red terror, Texas cichlid, Tilapia buttikoferi, haitiensis (black nasty/odo), smaller parachromis (friedrichsthalii, loisellei, motaguensis), Trimac, Vieja argentea, green terror, various pike cichlids (eg. xingu I). - By no way a definative list, but they are worth looking into.

Probably the ones with most personality will be : midas/rd, texas, Tilapia buttikoferi, haitiensis or trimac in my opinion and ones I'd look at first. Though that isn't to say the others will be utterly characterless.

Some of the fish on the list might not be able to fit in a 77 gallon depending on the dimensions (reason why I ask) and others you may be able to keep a pair of.

My jag had a great personality, many people i know who have jag's love them, Another possibilty is polleni they are sexy looking fish, i have a 3inch one, look out for a thread by angelmouse she has the most gourgeous pair
