I got given a large figure 8 for free because the shop owner had the other baby f8 with large chunks missing.

I've only seen him open 1 gill on hisleft side the other stays shut

Is he breathing normally otherwise or rubbing that gill up against anything?

he is breathing fine other than this gill not moving & fin rot.he's at 1.007 why would he get gill fluke & how do you treat them.

It doesn't sound like gill flukes...

Another question...did you acclimate the puffer to that salinity or did you introduce him from the bag to that salinity. Chances are, because most LFS are irresponsible and don't have the resources to have seperate tanks, the puffer was in freshwater at purchase. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm just confused because you said you just got him and he's already in a bit of salt.

Also, your water is a bit too salty for what the figure 8 likes

Tetraodon biocellatus is not a fully FW fish, it does best in a mildly brackish tank with a SG up to 1.005

today he's breathing through to oposite gill but not the other.
the lfs kept him at 1.003 & I'm treating him for finrot but when I'm out of the room(or pretend to be) he just sit's on the bottom.
