as many of you know I have a 55 gallon with an adult JD and I have recently become infatuated with the idea of getting an adult male firemouth to add to the tank..... but I cant find one ANYWHERE all of the the fish that I see are 2 inches max which would end up being an expensive meal for my JD am I missing a site somewhere?

How big is your JD right now?

You can try Jeff Rapps or cichlidmaster's site.

Rapps has 4-4.5" and CM has 3-3.5". Always email (or PM CM) and ask if it's still in stock because sometimes it's hard to keep a website updated everyday.

Has the JD been by himself the whole time? He might not like a tankmate. JD's are usually only semi-aggro but once in a while you can run across a more beligerant one. Either way it will be more aggro than a T. meeki. If I was to try this I would let the FM become established in the tank first then add the JD back in there afterwards, if it's possible for you that is. :)

I talked to CM once upon atime about adding tank mates in with my JD right now he is about 7 inches that is y I want to get an adult so that it dosen't become a meal. and this is a summery of what he told me....( this kind of ties in with the trading spaces idea as well.) that since I really don't have a spot to put my JD until the firemouth becomes established that I can TRY this in changing the way that the tank looks by moving stuff and adding stuff and keeping the JD out of the tank for a bit while this is going on then adding the new fish and letting them settle in for about an hour then adding the JD back to the tank. but like I said the trouble is finding an adult... I checked out rapps site and he requires a 50 dollar min on fish... I really don't need that many fish. but I just looked at CMs site it has been awhile since I was there so I will definatly pm him about some fish.
