African Dwarf Frogs

I've seen them in stores and they'll just be sitting at the bottom or layed under a rock somewhere but what I wanted to know is how do you know if your frog is alive or not? What if it is just sitting there.

I've heard of them going into hiding for a week or more but if he's just sitting there and you can't see him breathing or moving at all, try touching him with a long straw or something to see if he moves.
