African Butterfly Fish

I have no personal experience with African Butterfly Fish, but I did read something once that stated if you have much surface water agitation it is very difficult for them to detect food in the water. They just won't see it. The author claimed that his ABF's were completely different fish with filter/aeration/power head/etc. ALL turned off at feeding time. Just put the food in the water and the ABFs come quietly stalking up on it and pounce.

Don't know if that helps. *shrug*

This is probably becuase they are predators. They hunt for food that moves along the waters. I often have to reduce the current in my tanks when I feed mine. I also have to drop the food almost in front of it's face in order for it to feed.

The fish that was eaten was a new introduction so had not become accustomed to the ABF. So that is why it was prob eaten.

My other fish will swim right up to them have a nosey and then swim off.

Sad to Say that I Found BFG Dead Today.

He Managed to get stuck in the gap between the heater and the glass. How he did It I do not know.

He had gotten very large and fat.

He had been exploring more of the tank recently, and was venturing into the tunnels I made for them both.

He was Spending some time behind the Background as well. which he never did before.

And an Update on gold, She is eating Flakes and Pellets. Did not know they would eat that, but she loves it.

Well, sorry to hear about your loss.

Hope the gold one fares better, Good Luck
