When I first bought them I was under the impression they got to about 4/5 inches I cant believe they have got so big! This one is a wild specimen and was quite a decent age when they arrived in our tanks then you have had them just short of a year now I think.

Maybe domestic strains stay smaller than wild specimens?

I think that fishbase is actually wrong! Its saying that these are actually collected in the Rio Jena Hero which is actually a different strain of Aequidens (or Andinoacara if your upto date hehee) sp. Jena Hero has coloured ventral fins like a maroony red where as A.Diadema has clear.

An other reason why these two species can get mixed up - perhaps the two species have different maximum sizes for that reason?

First site wouldnt upload for me, the second site has in the top left hand corner the date of 2005, old information  Not going to get into an argument over it, I have one touching 8" swimming round my tank, so I agree to differ.

also disagree matts new one is deffinatly bigger seen it in the flesh enough to know its bigger than 4 inches

Star4's (formerly Wills) A.Diadema is 8", saw him only a few weeks ago!

Dont take much notice of most of the 'expert' sites, personal experience with fish and their sizes is usually a better idea.
