Advice Please - Chinese Algae Eater Tank Size?

Hi there

I currently have a 3 foot tank with a handful of tetras and a chinese algae eater in it... I'd really like to downsize, and buy a nicer looking tank too. Before I can start the hunt, I need to know how much space my loach needs. He's about 15cm. And not agressive! I would really like to keep him, rather than re-home...

Any advice gratefully received! Thank you

These guys can get to a foot long, so really a smaller tank would not be advised.
