We recently purchased a Nitragon as the nitrates in our tap water are pretty high and are very pleased with the results. It has reduced the nitrates to zero.

The instructions that came with it though are pretty poor and we are not sure of the best method to recharge it. If anyone else is using one, I would be grateful for any info on their set ups. We recharged it for the first time last night using an old power head and various buckets, tubes and pieces of string, but there has to be an easier way of doing it doesn't there? Our main concern was that we have left salt in it and we will kill all my fish  We flushed twice as much water through it as mentioned in the instructions, but it still tasted salty, so I am flushing it again this morning. Does the flow of water through the unit matter when flushing? Also it says that the unit has to be vertical when recharging, but does it matter which way up it is?

I've never seen one. Looking on the web, I found a site here which talks about recharging.

I can't imagine it would make any difference which way up it was, the important thing is that being vertical, the entire cylinder is being treated, if it were horizontal, it is possible the recharging fluid/flushing water, would only be in contact with the lower half of the cylinder. However, that is pure speculation based on my experience with other resin units.

If the water tastes salty, then it is too salty for many fish. Although probably okay for mollies which can slowly be acclimated to marine conditions.

ooh sorry to thread hijack.

Latteraline, did you suggest mollies can live in full marine? if so that is handy tidbit of info.... just checking.
