I was mulling around an old thrift shop in the area and happened upon this old gal in a back corner under some clothing piles. Did a quick once over, haggled the owner down from $150 to $60 and a four day money-back warrantee so that I could take it home, check for leaks and bring it back if I found any. Today I took her out of my back seat, to the back yard and cleaned her out. In whole, the tank was used with a few scratches, but I saw nothing beyond cosmetic value-which wasn’t something I was worried about.

I filled the tank up and left for a few hours, came back, noticed these chips flaking off the glass in the corners. I emptied the tank to avoid having anything explode on me or all over my back patio. Any advice on what I should do? Should I not bother with it and take it back tomorrow and get my money? Should I consider buying a new panel of glass and resealing the whole tank? As far as length, should I be worried about any bowing? What about a brace?

Any advice might help. I don’t know the exact gallons and I have no clue what the measurements are yet. Just trying to get a feel of what I should do before Friday morning.

hi
IMO you can try resealing the bad parts but I think is better to undo it and using the same glass put it to getter. if the glass is chip a lot I think is better to change it

in one extreme case if the silicone is very bad take it all apart and put new one so you will have a new tank lol. I like to do that type of stuff :)

hope I help it looks pretty big to me I wold keep it I think is a good price

If I had the resources, I would have taken the tank apart, cut down the length past the chips and recaulked it myself. But, I just don't feel safe doing it when the tank is this big-nor do I have the time to do it at the moment. God only knows, I'd be the person to come home and find a flooded room with a bunch of dead fish. >__< As much as I want to keep it, I am going to take it back and just put the $60 away in savings for something newer. Maybe I can find another deal or something close to it. With the way the economy is going so far around this area, there are a bunch of people selling their tanks. It's just a matter of driving out to see them before you shake on it.

Thanks for the reply. ^^
