i have a tank that really needs the gravel cleaning so i might need to take the lot out but it has loads of shrimps as well as the few fish in it im wondering how the best way to clean the tank is?

i have a power gravel cleaner but i don't want to kill the shrimp (and some are tiny babies) the other option was just to catch them all and i hope i get most of them,

anyone got any other suggestions?

get some air line tubing, start off the siphon effect and just suck up the dirt from the top of the gravel and don't disturb it. Siphon it into a bucket then check bucket for shrimpies!

or, catch everything, and swap over to sand, so you never have to #14### around again with gravel vac.

i might try the siphon but i definatly am not going to sand its horrible, had it before and i just prefer gravel

another way which i use, is to place a fish net over the end of the intake for the syphon :good:

When cleaning my shrimp tank i use my normal syphon. Make sure the shrimp arent under it and they soon move when they see it coming. But also check the bucket to make sure you havent sucked any out. I do this everytime and not had a problem. I also have fry in the same tank and doesnt bother them either.

i cleaned it today and they didn' go up the pipe (a guppy did though stupid thing) but it took a while its done possible lost a couple of shrimp but i will soon have more babies so not worried about so few
