Advice On Setup For Tank?

hi guys going to pic up tank very soon i think i know what i want, but what should i use on the bottom is it best to layer thing with sand gravel stones etc or just one of the above? when using wood will it be ok to boil for around 15-20 mins stand in water over night and add to the tank?

Depends on the piece of wood. My piece of "hopeful" wood is now into its second month sitting submerged in water in a plastic container out on the back patio. On weekends I pour boiling water over it but it still makes "tea" during the week, lol.

The choice of gravel or sand is entirely yours. Either is quite acceptable and common. Perhaps gravel has an edge for being slightly easier for beginners if they seem equal to you as far as looks go.

lol ok i didnt quite realise that a piece of wood could be such a problem lol, if i decided to put plants in then what would be an easy/hardy plant to use..?
 
OK, let's see if I can get one of these and start you off:

...what I do is use the TFF search tool with the two words easy plants and member George Farmer and limit it to the planted tank section - that gives me a number of posts with discussions of easy plants...

There are lots of other good easy plants posts, not just Farmer's.
