Hi Guys

I have just got rid of all my fish and am looking to replace with something eles. I have a juwel 350 litre corner unit. What i wanted was on oscar or 2 if this amount of water is suitable . I am not sure on different types of oscars as i have not done much research yet the reason i want a big fish is because its a focal point in the living room. It may not have to be an oscar if anyone has some suggestions for a decent size tropical fish that is good to look at and would also like a bottom feeder or anything that will go with the choice of fish that will help eat the crap off the floor anyone that can help will be very much appreciated.

Could you give the dimensions (length, height, width) of the tank, as that's more important than the volume when you're considering larger fish.

Bottom feeders might help clean up any food that the other fish misses, but it will poop more than it helps clear up, and would need proper food of its own too. Have a bottom feeder if you want one, not because you want them to clear up for you, because they won't; you'll have to do that yourself!

Aquarium Dimension 123 x 87 x 64.5cm

took these from google hope this helps. the bottom feeder its not a probllem with the cleaning just nice to have somethings that helps that was i am trying to find something a bit different aswell form a plec catfish etc.

Are you sure because that wok out at 690l not 350l. There are loads of different catfish that could work depending on the size of the tank.

It's a triangle though...
Oh yeah i didnt read that.

A 75G is a bit small for 2 oscars imo but i think 1 should work fine with maybe a few catfish like Hoplos and some dithers.

yea i think its small to could maybe do with something eles i just fancy a couple of fairly decent size cichlids which look good and wont kill each other

Well you might get away with something like a Firemouth, Convict, HRP, T Bar, Salvini, Blue acara ect
I would go for something like
1 Oscar
1 Other cichlid
5 Hoplo catfish or 1 Plec maybe a Royal plec if you want something a little different
6 Dithers, will need to be something big enough not to get eaten

Trouble with having two cichlids is, if they decide they don't like each other all hell breaks loose. Really the only way to get two that will live happily together is to start of with a few juveniles and let the fish pair off themselves, but you have to be able to re-home the 'spares'.

I think you'd be ok with one oscar in a tank that size, but i know other people have differing views. Frontosas or green terrors would be nice too. How about severums? Or Jack Dempseys?

Frontosa have different requirments being from Africa where as oscars are from South america. You might get away with a Green terror but it will be risky in a 75G the only way to find out is to try it but you will need to have a way of moving it streight away if it kicks off. The best way to do it would be to try and get them at a small size so they can grow up together but it depends on the indavidual fish weather it will work or not.

i just got rid of 2 sevrums as they were not getting on i also like the jack dempsy i did have one but it died all of a sudden. the green terror looks nice but would 2 be ok in my tank same goes for frontasas how many of them could i keep?

As I said before, in all honesty, the only way you can keep two cichlids of the same species together is by letting them pair off from a group (or buying an already mated pair). Otherwise it would be like sticking you in a room with a random woman and expecting you to fall in love; it's more than likely you'd end up not being able to stand each other!

I have zero knowledge of frontosas; you'd be better off asking in the 'Old World Cichlid forum' where the Tanganyika specialists hang out :good:
