Advice On My Sick Gourami Please

Well all of the 'nastiness' has completely gone away now and he has one HUGE hole in his side to the point where you can almost see 'inside' him. I presume that this is how he will always be now?

Can you post a picture? It's probably still has some healing to do, so give it some more time.

Sorry I have tried to get pictures but they are all pants :(

However I am very happy to announce that my Gourami is now fine - his wound has almost completely gone - just got a grey patch now where his scales should be - he is also eating fine (once again he is the first fish up as soon as the food is in)! The only thing he hasn't returned to doing is his 'laps' of the tank.

I feel very lucky as after everything I read on this forum and on the rest of the net as the general consensus I read was that a lot of Gourami's do not survive once they get something like this, so needless to say I am very happy :D

Thank You to everyone who offered advice :D

Glad to hear your fish is doing well. The scales will probably grow back, it will just take a while longer. Your fish is still expending allot of energy just trying to heal itself. Doing laps is probably a low priority for him.

You seem to be quite observant of your fish's behavior. So many people seem to not notice that their fish is ill until it's nearly dead, even though their behavior will begin to change subtly very early on in an illness. Fish do their best to hide illness; by the time it begins to become very obvious, they are extremely ill. But as you have witnessed, they have an amazing ability to rapidly heal themselves when the environment is right.
