My first batch of Convict fry are starting to hatch so I've got a couple of questions.

1) I read somewhere that you should put tights over the end of the filter to stop the little squiglies getting sucked up. I tried it this morning and it really slowed down the filter output to nearly a tricle. Any other suggestions?

2) What do I need to feed them and when?

To cover the upflow tube on your filter, you can use a sponge, pantyhose sock, filter pad, just about anything that would restrict the little guys from getting sucked up. Just hold it on with a rubberband and change it periodically. You can feed the fry with fry food available at your LFS. It comes in a tube usually. Another option is finely crushed flake food. Put it in a plastic bag and use a rolling pin to crush it into a dust. You can also use egg yolk. I would turn off the filters if the fry are not getting food. How bout some pics????

How big do they need to be before I start feeding them (they are just free swimming now)?

How do I make sure they get the food and it isn't taken by the other fish?

other fish? there are tankmates? hm.....i would just use flakes turned to powder.

I use hikari first bites and I hatch BBS for my ram fry. For my filter intake, I took the mesh from my fry net and used a rubber band to hold it onto the filter. I just scrub it off when it gets dirty. I only have the fry and an oto in the tank tho so it doesn't get very dirty. I cut the excess off the net so it didn't get in the way of anything or trap any babies in.
