before i buy an external i wuld like to know which will be easier to maintain an eheim pro 2 or a tetratec ex 1200?

ive heard of the tetratec clogging etc, but which woud be better? price isnt an issue

If price isn't an issue, then the eheims is your best bet.

They are both pretty much just as easy to maintain IMO, only difference (apart from eheims reputation) is that the tetratecs taps are slightly easier to break than the eheims hose connector. Still, not an easy thing to do in the slightest.

Ehiem are the best option, Pro 2's are very easy to look after and i have loads of them and never have a problem other than the o-ring after 3-4 years needs replacing and that should be it.

I've found my Tetratec EX1200's very easy. Close taps, lift leaver, remove to sink then lift four tabs and your into the media. Simples  To close, re-seat the head, lock the four clamps, place back under the than and push the hoseconnector back on, open the outlet tap and wait for the tube to empty. After that, open the inlet valve. When full again, switch on and that will be it for 6+ months :good: Very easy :hyper:

hi

i know nothing about external filters but ive been giving it some thought myself if i bought a Tetratec EX1200 does it come with everything you need straight out of box?

yep as far as i know

sorry truckasauras123, just gonna hijack your thread for a sec :hyper:

obviously eheims are the number one brand but one thing i can't work out is why do eheims have a much lower pump output compared to other filters aimed at the same sized tank?

its down to how Eheim test their canisters, they use a full set of, recommended, media for their tests. many others don't put any media in for the test. so eheim claim 500lph turnover (pump rating 750lph)for my 2224, but the tetra 700 (700lph)actually has a lower flow rate with media. this gives the impression the Eheim needs less flow to do any given volume.
