Does anyone here know (or actually done this) if these can be pulled to bits and used for t5 tubes? I did it YEARS ago with t8's,but I have no idea if the ballasts are different for t5's.I'm hoping to use these in my 6' in the next month or 2.save a few ££ :shifty:

nice one,cheers mate :good:

A kit is almost always more expensive than the individual pieces. As long as you carefully select a matched set of components, assembling them into a functional lighting strip should go quite easily.

I'm thinking the light units I mentioned + arcadia replacement leads? Not gonna skimp on the safety,so I dont mind paying the little bit extra for the waterproof leads.

If you're struggling for T8 lamp leads then these guys sell them:

T5 ballasts are different from the majority of T8 (electronic start, and the heaters are turned off after striking.

Just search eBay for T5 ballast or, as some one mentioned, ask at your local Edmundsons, Newey and Eyre or City Electrical Factors. You'll get a proper quality ballast at a lower cost.

Remember, you can get single ballasts that do two tubes like this Twin Ballast but go for a philips, osram or tridonic brand, as I've had less problems with those.
