Advice for hurricane

I'm glad it didnt hit Central Florida, I feel for the people in New Orleans our 4 hurricanes can never compare to what Katrina did. And talk about gas prices!!! Whoa are they at a record high. Oh yea and some of the schools around me shut the buses off cuz Katrina damage the oil so badly in the Gulf Coast.. Very catastrophic.

Well right now it looks like I'm right in the path of hurricane Katrina and I might have to evacuate. I was just wondering if theres anything I can do help my fish survive this this thing, because I'm sure the power will go out for a while.

I have a 30 gallon tank with 5 black skirt tetras, 3 emarald cories, 2 otos, and 2 gold gouramis. I was going to feed them today and do a water change before we leave town, and maybe put a weekend feeder tablet in it.

Is there any other precautions I can take? What if the power is out whenever we get back, what am I supposed to do then?

It's important to note the date of the initial post from DazedNCoNfUsEd - Aug. 27th - before Katrina hit. Any advice on what to do with the fish is probably pointless.

I'm hoping that Dazed evacuated and is safe. I sent an email to him, but haven't heard anything back - nor do I expect to anytime soon as I'm sure there are more pressing issues right now - perhaps no home, missing friends, family, etc. :(

Everybody, let's just keep him and all the others from New Orleans, Biloxi, Gulfport, etc. in our thoughts and prayers right now. And... send money to the relief effort. :flowers:

I agree. I hope he made it out and just doesn't have access to a computer. If you plan to donate money, see if your employer is offering a company match. Most large companies are. As a side note, according to Yahoo's homepage, donates to the Red Cross so far are at $48,352,315 raised from 339,081 donors. That sounds great but they will probably need about 100 times that ($4.8 billion) to help pay for sheltering the evacuees for the months it will take before they can return home.

I know how it is to WORRY about your Pets that you Love So Much...
I've got Fish, 6 Birds, and a Guinea Pig.
And everytime we have a Threat of A Tornado I worry about having to leave them, Because they were given to Me to take Care of, And I take that JOB Seriously.
I've even had to leave my house a few times and couldn't take them with me during the threat of a Tornado, to Go hunker down in the Basement of my Church. Don't You Think I've Prayed for Mine and My Familys Safety along with My Pets, {Our Safety Being Paramount}???
By God's Grace we have always Come Out OK...
But One Never Knows.
Yes I know That a Tornado is different then a Hurricane/ But Death and Distruction is just that Death and Distruction, It don't make NO DIFFERENCE Death is Death, the Ends are the SAME..
"NO MATTER HOW IT HAPPENS"

Just the Point that He/She took time to type up this Thread Shows He/She Cares about His/Her Charges.

While Yes I Agree He/She probably has more Pressing things on His/Her Mind right now then to Worry about His/Her Fish, IF their House was Flattened then He/She will still Mourn for their Pets if Not now He/She will Sometime Soon... When the Disbelief in their Minds Clear...

Yes I agree that a Human Life is MORE IMPORTANT then an Animals Life...
But I also believe that an Animals Life is Important as Well, and a persons feelings for their Pets are to be Respected. God tells Us in his Holy Word that he Cares for the Sparrows of the Feild as Well as he Cares for Us.

I heard of a Little Boy who had to get on a chopper the Other day to be evacuated, He had been Holding his Pet Dog the Whole time Only to have it Ripped Outta his Arms by A Policeman, He Cried Out SNOWBALL, SNOWBALL, and even after taking off Continued to Cry Out for his Beloved Pet for another 45 Minutes until he Vomited, and Passed Out from the Overwhelming Emotions brought on by Losing his Place to Live, Seeeing all he ever knew Distroyed, then Lost his Pet at the Hands of a Policeman that I'm Sure he was tought he could Trust...
I PROMISE You that Little Boy Will never Veiw a Policeman the Same Way Again.

Do I agree that the Cop Did the Right Thing?
From a Human Stabd point YES... {BUT}
If the Little Boy was Allowed to Keep the Dog to THIS POINT...
What would it Have Hurt to Let Him KEEP His Beloved Pet. It would've allowed the Boy to have a little bit of Hope and Love that No Person can give you Like Your Pets Unquestionable Love and Devotion Can, in a time of Utter Chaos...

While I AM NOT a Animals Rights "NUT"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am Not without feelings for peoples Pets and Animals in General.... :angry: :X :angry:

While YES I don't really Believe Now is Not the Time to WORRY about Animals, When there are So Many People to Save Right Now.
How about after the Dust Clears so to Speak...
The Few Remaining Pets that Manage to make it Through this MESS, Do you think they are Going to Put them into a Local Animal shelter, Where they Can get Some Proper Care???
I Doubt It!!! :grr: :grr: :grr:

Where By God's Merciful Grace they May Be reunited with their Rightful Owners.
NO I'M NOT Saying we should Spend $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to trey to Find Their Owners...{BUT}
At least "IF" their Owners didn't Find them...
"AT LEAST" they Would Get a 2nd Chance at a Decent Life "MAYBE" in Another Home with Loving Owners.

I REALIZE THAT THIS WILL CAUSE ALOT OF "WHOOY" ON THESE FOURMS.
AND YES I REALIZE I MIGHT EVEN BE BANNED FROM THESE FORUMS...
"BUT I DON'T CARE"...
BECAUSE THE SIMPLE FACT THAT SOMEONE WHO CARED ENOUGH TO WRITE A THREAD OUTTA CONCERN FOR THEIR PETS, WHEN THEY COULDA SAID @#*&^'EM AND GAVE THEIRSELVES A FEW MORE SECONDS HEAD START.

DESERVES SOME SIMPLE RESPECT...
FOR CRYIN OUT LOUD...

NOW LETS PRAY FOR ALL THOSE THAT HAVE SURVIVED THIS DISASTER.
BOTH "HUMAN" AND ANIMAL ALIKE.....
AS WELL AS PRAY FOR THOSE WHO HAD TO LEAVE THEIR PETS BEHIND, THAT BY GOD'S GRACE THEY AND THEIR PETS WILL BE UNITED BACK TOGETHER SAFELY.

ALTHOUGH SAD TO SAY THIS MOST LIKELY WILL NOT BE THE CASE FOR MOST...
BUT LET'S PRAY FOR ALL THOSE THAT WILL BE...

Hey everyone!

I wanted to say first off thanks to everyone for their concern, I really appreciate it. I'm ok, me and my wife evacuated to Jacksonville, FL. Apparently my part of town did not get hit too bad so all of my stuff is probably ok. I'm sure the fish didn't make it due to not having power for the last week.

Someone posted "why are we worried about fish right now...." Well when I posted my first post the hurricane was still way out in the Gulf. A lot of people, as well as myself, figured the hurricane would be like many others in the past and make a turn to the east or west, and that we could all go back in a few days. Well needless to say that was not the case, and instead of being without power for a few days, its more like a few months. Of course fish are not a major concern right now.

Anyways, this is the only day I'll have computer access for a while. I'm at my parents house in NC right now, but I'm in the military and have to report to the base in Atlanta by tomorrow. Thanks again for the concern you guys, and lets keep the people who really got it bad in our prayers. I'll post again as soon as I get a chance. :byebye:

I'm GLAD and {PRAISE GOD} that you and your Family are OK...... :cool: :D

LIKE YOU :-( TO Say the Fish are most likely Gone.

But let US know how your Other Belongings Came through it. {WHEN YOU CAN}

And since You have to Report to a Military Base I take it your in One of the Branches, Of Our Countries Service. So Let me take this Chance to {THANK YOU} and Everyone Else that Serves OUR COUNTRY :cool: :cool:

And to {THANK YOUR FAMILY} as well for all the Sacrifices that you MAKE!!!!
To Keep Us All "SAFE" and for Giving Us the Freedoms that we now have and Enjoy...
:* :cool: :kana: :thumbs:
