Im going to be buying a new tank on monday and plan to use it as a breeding tank sometime in the future but for a start to give some more space as my current tank is overstocked, in an ideal world i would get the biggest tank i can afford but being a student in a student house im going to be moving around a fair bit.
Q1: Im thinking of breeding either German Blue Rams or Pearl Gourami's(personal favorite :p) any suggestions?
Q2: what would be the minimum size for a breeding tank from what ive heard/seen its about 80L correct me if im wrong.

Once i do get it ill more than likely make a log
have what im going to do all planned out in my head :D
black sand and heavily planted and have some bits of mopani/bogwood in there, any suggestions welcome

Not sure on breeding tanks but I do know that German blue rams need a mature tank or they don't last very long :-( I learnt this the hard way then found that they needed a mature tank on a forum ;-)

yea i currently have two in my first tank that are fine but i also lost two last month but i think that's due to where i got them as they were the last fish i got and the first too die :/

Rams would be fine in an 80 ltr. Pearl gouramis would need at least 30 gallons imo for 1 m/3 f. But you could breed a pair in a 15 gallon, if you keep them sexes separated until they are ready to breed. After they have bred, remove the female back to the community tank.

thanks, am i right in saying that if i do breed gourami's once the tank is set up and cycled put the female in there on her own then add the male after a day or something and soon as they eggs have been fertilized take the female out?

Yeah, add the female condition her with good frozen and live foods for about a week then add the male. Within a couple of days they should spawn. If they don't an 80% water change will often induce spawning. Once they have, remove the female, after the fry are free swimming remove the male. Lower the water to about an inch or two deep, and add cling film across the top of the tank to keep the humidity high. You'll need infrosia as a first food. Good luck!
