Here we are now. Yesterday night i setup my fishtank for the Betta, he is doing okay i soppose, except when the power filter is going he doesn't seem to enjoy it.
Anyone else have a Fluval Spec any pointers on how this filter works? all i see it doing is moving water round in a circle lol.

I guess no one would like to comment :(

Hi there, if you want to use it filter, it has to be running 24 hours a day, to allow it to remove waste and develop a biological capacity (i.e. with bacteria - this takes time).

Bettas often to better with bubble filters or filters with gentle flow.

Hi thank you for response. this evening i did a water change is i could smell the ammonia build up. Tomorrow morning i will make another. I am not sure what this filter is doing maybe nothing but spinning the water?

What type of filter is it? If you can smell ammonia that's seriously polluted. Do a 90% water change with dechlorinated water & pop into a petshop for a filter start kit.

It is built into the aquarium on the back. It has a large sponge with two compartments for inserting carbon and bio max (which i did). Then there is a power pump with a tube. Water is suppose to come in from the sponge side and go out the right pump tubing. But i don't see any flow that it is sucking IN to the sponge.
