Adding Ocean Rock To An Already Established Tank...

is this the same as ocean rock ? has my lfs told me to rinse it through place on the bottom of the tankand then put the live rock over it so this way the bottom of the live rock will not die off

is this ok or will i have to do the same as allen has done here with the vinegar??

Indeed, I also would place the rocks in a rubbermaid first... and test the water after a few days...
cheers
Ter

OK, heres an update....

The Ocean rock has been sat in a bin full of water for 2 weeks now.

The temp is at 28'c, no light source, powerhead and airstone for movement.

I have reduced the ammonia to 0, Nitrate is at 10ppm (about as low as I can ever seem to get Nitrate, even with fresh RO and salt mix the level is 10ppm).

The Nitrite is at 0.25ppm and has been the same after 4 water changes.

Is there anyway I can speed the nitrite drop up ? Adding a cupfull of my substrate from the sump maybe to introduce some bacteria from the tank ?

Do I have to use RO water for the curing ? (I have plenty here)

on my one i only have 2 ocean rock in tanks have tested twice and it doesnt seem to be effecting tank stats so i guess my is good

ro would be best

That tiny amount of nitrite could be an indicator of a faulty test kit. Even if the kit works properly, if the nitrite is not INCREASING, that miniscule amount will not pose enough bioload addition to tip the scales in your reef. I'd go ahead and add it :)

I will wait a little longer.

I used the same test kit for the rock-bin as the tank.

Another water change in 3 days then I will add it next Saturday.
