Hi, ive finally got around to upgrading my tank to a larger one, i moved all gravel, plants & am running the new filter & old filter alongside each other...have moved my current fish in to the new tank & all seems to be well. My question is when can i start adding new fish to my upgraded tank? I have 6 month old platy fry that i want to start moving across to the larger tank from their nursery tank. Also when i do this should i add them 1 at a time to the upgraded tank & if so how long do i leave it before adding the next fry? Thanks.

Following with interest for my own upgrade. But no idea :fish:sorry I'm no help.

If you are using back your old filter, you can start any time.
How long did you use your old filter?
Any filter tht has been running for more than 2 months should have the beneficial bacteria(BB).

Also, how many fish you kept in the past? The more fish you have, the more BB you have in the old filter.

Hi, the filter from the smaller tank has been running for 7 months, in that tank there was 4 platies and 6 neon tetras, which i have now transferred to the bigger tank...

You can start the tank with the same number of fish or even slightly more and slowly increase them since your filter has been cycled.

I set my new tank up 3 weeks ago and added my platy fry yesterday. I had already added my original fish as I had used my original filter etc as you have done.
