I have to add some parasite medication to my tank tonight and it says on the bottle to only add half the stated dose if using a power filter. Is a juwel filter a power filter???

Juwels are power heads, don't forget to remove black carbon.

Now this is kind of off-topic but I'm curious... what difference would it make whether the filter is a power filter or not? Is it to do with the bacteria?

I'm not really sure, it just says to only add half dose for power, external and undergravel filters -_- I forgot about the black carbon! I have to add several doses though almost every other day with about 5 applications. Should I remove the carbon sponge for the whole time or just after each medication for a while?

Black carbon is for removing medication from your tank , so I would leave it out till you have finished the course, what parasite med is it, and what for.

It is called STERAZIN and is a 5 day course for gill flukes, body flukes and internal parasites such as worms.....apparantly

I have a male neon-blue dwarf gourami who is getting thinner and had been doing long white stringy doo doo for a few days at least  . I was told in the gourami forum that this sounds like a parasite, which was what I thought. The lfs lady said to treat the whole tank in case any other fish were affected.

Thanks for all the advice. So will taking the sponge out for a week harm the tank and good bacteria?

Good luck, so you can buy a med now for internal parasites.
