What is the significanse of adding both together and not just the Epsom Salt?

Apparently I was mistaken, its more like 90%/10% Mag chloride to Mag sulphate by volume. The reason (as detailed in the article johnny linked) is that adding such a mixture would add both chloride and sulfide ions in a concentration equal to that which is already in seawater, thus not adding one significantly over the other.

It says that if you do at least 30% total water change a month then using just epsom salt will be ok.
