I have a 29 gallon tank, and was wondering if adding LR to it would cause any problems with water quality, since there would be some die off on the LR. I'm guessing I only have 20-25 lbs of LR at the moment. I think another 10 lbs would do. The lfs has just bagged it before, but if I bring in a container and have it in some water, would that help prevent some of the die off? I thought about just adding dry rock, and I will if the LR die off would cause problems, but the LR at the lfs just looks so darn nice.

If it is cured rock you are buying then adding it should be ok.

If you can keep the rock wet while moving it or its not out the water for long then die of should be minimal anyway.

Yeah, as long as it's not out of water for very long you should be fine.

I have an issue w/taking lr from the fish store and assuming it's ok. Thing is, unless they keep careful track, they don't really know which shipment the live rock came in, how long it's really been there. There water tests will always show 0 b/c of their large filtering system. My lfs just has a couple large tanks and I don't know that they know exactly which rock is from what shipment especially as people say "I want that one" and then it gets shifted all over the place.

Plus ich can live on the rock in one of it's many states. All it needs is a host. I'd use your QT tank to hold it for 8 weeks before adding it... just my opinion though :)
