I bought some bogwood from the LFS and I'm searching for the pretreatment steps (if any) for the piece before adding it to the tank.
Does anyone have any advice for me before I just give it a rinse in tank water and "chuck" it in!?

Thanks in advance!

Ok so boil it up in a big saucepan?
When you say soak it in hot water for a week or two. How do you manage this?

I always put my bogwood in a bucket for 7-14 days with fresh boiled water added every day before going in the tank. I have read some threads where members have soaked bigger pieces in there bath.

Keith.

Boil the hell out of it in a big saucepan for a few hours. Then put it in a water filled container outside for a few weeks untill it sinks. then boil it agian, then scrubb it with a stifff brush. Then soak it some more, then boil it a bit more. Then add it to your tank.

:good:

Bloody hell, if I knew it was gonna be this much grief I would have just left it, I just liked the shape of it and figured that it would look really good in the tank!
Ah well, let the boiling commence!

If you don't mind your water with tanin then it wont hurt to put it in now, may lower your pH slightly.

boiling it will kill anything that would be bad for the fish
the soaking will help it sink and remove some of the tennans SP that gives your water the tea color.
I have boiled mine for a few hours and scrubbed it down and added it
It floated for a bit and turned my water darker but my angles kinda like the water that way

Open the lid; put the wood in the tank, close the lid (well, that's what I do with bought wood anyway; if you've collected it yourself, boiling is a good idea).

Stick in the bath with hot water and added a few kettles and scrub should be ok within a few hours...
