I have a well established 37G tank... firemouth, redtail shark, cuckoo cat, 2 rosy barbs, 2 tiger barbs, and a little pleco...

i'm looking to add 2-3 more fish to replace the tiger barbs that died. (they pretty much always seem to kill off the smallest one. one by one.)

i thought of adding 3 green tiger barbs, but i'm afraid the "cycle of tiger barb violence" will continue, and the runt of the pack will be destroyed like the ones who came before him/her. but i'd be willing to give it a shot.

but if i went with something else, any suggestions?

presently, the fish i have are living in really good harmony, certain fish chase other fish, but no one gets hurt, it's all in good fun.

Seeing as how barbs attack each other and/or other fish, you have to keep a shoal of them. I'm not sure if they shoal between species (species, right?). If not, then that's where your problem is. If you don't add barbs to the tank, the fin nipping and violence could spread to the other fish.

i know about keeping the numbers of tiger barbs. i started out with 6, the number slowly dwindled down to 2.

the 2 i have know not to mess with any of the other fish. the shark chases the tiger barbs around the tank. the firemouth does the same. they don't even acknowledge the catfish, and the rosy barbs never get messed with either.

so, the 2 tiger barbs i have now are behaving, so i was wondering what else i could add to the tank other than more tiger barbs if you know what i'm saying.

Look at my sig. Tiger/Green Barbs need to be kept in a big enough group (at least six, of each). I read on the net (before I got them) that they were very aggressive. Having had them for some seven months, I have to admit I don't find them aggressive at all, as long as they're kept with something equally aggressive (e.g. a RTBS).
