I personally think its overpriced for equipment too , but we must all like the look of it as we are all buying the imitation stuff (especially glassware)
Its the same with everything though. Do we buy a nike shirt or one in the same colour and style from PriMark. I'd bet the Primark would last the same length of time and was probably produced in the same factory minus the extra 5 seconds used to embroider the swoosh logo.
Same could be said of Ralph Lauren shirts compared to Matalan or George shirts.
Same as Eheim vs Tetratec. All the Eheim users say is Eheim is best and Tetratec won't last as long but how do they know? The answer is they don't and won't until these filters are 10 years old.
People often say that something is the best purely based on the price but this is quite often not the case. Look at the flagship of 80s supercars the Lamborghini Countach. It is an icon of a car that adorned the walls of many children, yet for its huge price tag it was a very basic car internally but was superfast and stylish.
For all that money a lot of people had a great ornament for their driveway because they were incredibly unreliable vehicles to the point that a kit car copy based on a rover chassis and engine would be more reliable than the original. It wasn't as fast of course but was probably in the garage a lot less. <----This is the point I am making here eventually. lol
I think with most of ADAs equipment, you either believe that it is better or more likely just looking to have the ADA logo on each piece. I'm quite happy using Rhinox, Gamba and Flo imitations in a Fluval tank with black seals. The tank glass is also see through on Fluvals which they must have copied from ADA tanks which is great because it means I can see whats inside. lol
