I added two Albino Cories a few days ago, and i don't think they have settled in yet. They are very active and all day long they swim up against the side of the glass. Up, down, across...darting, almost chasing each other all day long. I bought them thinking they would be fairly calm, nocturnal...but they are damaging plants, possibly stressing my tetras as well.

Is this behaviour normal? How can i calm them down, or should i try to exchange them.

Mine seem to be active. They drart about for a bit then rest for a bit! They plaay with eachother and graze alge!i think its normal

I'm talking non stop. I haven't seen them rest at all.

I'm more concerned about the other fish. Will they get stressed when the cories seem to chase them for a bit? With the cories being so active, the tetras haven't moved much anymore, and i enjoyed watching the tetras play.

they are just tryin to adjust to their new home.they will settle down in a few days.
mine are almost never active and i got 12 of them in my tank.lazy knuckle heads :p

Theyve never bothered any of the fish in my tank(sig)i had phantom tetras with the and they didnt even notice eachouher  What type of tetras?

This is normal Cory behaviour and Albinos seem to be one of the most active but on the up side I have some tetras with mine and they get on fine.

there might not be much of their new home once they've settled! plants uprooted, stems snapped :)

cardinal and glowlight tetras. so with the cories up near the surface all the time, the tetras have become the bottom-dwellers in my tank.

lol.maybe they are just happy to be out of their lfs and into a nice home.
or did they sneak in sugar with your fish food?*wink wink*

well whatever's in the fish food must be good. if they are able to sustain that much activity without killing themselves, they're very healthy fish don't ya reckon?

Hi mattski :)

If you just bought them, they are still young fish, probably what we would consider teenagers. They are just playful and have lots of energy to spare. When they mature they will calm down considerably, but never stop completely. This is what endears them to so many people.

Corys are schooling fish and it would be better for them if you added at least one or two more. They also like to have a small cave in the tank where they can hide from time to time.

One thing you never have to worry about is that they will harm your other fish. Corys are perfect citizens of any community tank.

well, they've definitely calmed down now. now they shuffle along the ground all day long. they aren't eating the sinking pellets i put in, but eventually when they get hungry, they can. though i think they've been eating a bit of algae, cos the rocks look cleaner.

Yes perfectly normal......mine are the same, my peppered corry is a little calmer but you should always keep corries in groups of no less than 3 really but I have to admitt from my own experience I dont know that it really matters all that much.
