i just bought an acrylic tank that comes with a wisper power filter junior....it's a 5 gallon.....r they any good? i can still return it just in case.....

I prefer glass myself but it's all just a personal preference as to glass v. acrylic.

Acrylic scratches easier than glass but is clearer to look through. Acrylic is lighter but unless you get to 125g+, weight isn't much of an issue.

As far as the filter, I don't use Whisper so can't comment for sure on that but I like biowheels.

In my opinion acrylic is superior to glass. It is thermally more efficient (I.E. it retains it's temperature) so you are less likely to lose fish from heat waves, or during the winter. As stated it is lighter, more than 4 times a strong and 25% clearer. the only issue is cost. an acrylic tank can cost 8-12 times a much as a glass tank of the same size, the only dowside to acrylic is it scratches easily, however unlike with glass the scratchs can be buffed out. So if your budget can handle it, or you are going to have saltwater fish, go acrylic. If not get glass.

acctually here the acrylic tanks are a whole lot cheaper than any glass ones i've seen! :D
I agree with you! i got a 100 gallon with everything for 75 US$.

But we bought a newer one for 250US$ for a 75g(which was sold to us as a 100 gallon :sly: )

They do scratch more than glass. what is the best way to remove scratches? Anyone? Something that won't harm the fish while they are still in there.

Try newspaper(online), and pennysavers(online too). Know when they update those and what time. You usually get all the good deals when youre really early.

In my case, I waited until wednesday morning(1am...im a night owl) then went on to pennysaverusa.com. The ad said $100 for the tank and everything(filter, gravel, heater, broken though, lava rocks, decors, $20 testing kit, etc). We called(wednesday, around 11 am, and arranged to buy it that day) but my dad did some talking, and he managed to get it down to $75..hehehehe...I dunno, my dad has this special ability to negotiate...
