I have quite a few aquariums (17 in total) - most are rectangular sometimes with a bow front. Have had ideas about going for something a little bit more cool 8)

Having looked on the web it seems that these acrylic set ups are very versatile but from knowledge I've always kept clear of acrylic tanks but I'm not sure why? -_-

What's the score with acrylic tanks. They're lighter, stronger and much more individual so why don't more UK owners use acrylic? :/ It would seem that in the States that they're very popular??

Any sotries or info? Who has one??

If you buy the right kind of acrylic, it will never change color. And as for scratches, yes it will scratch if you arent careful but you can sand and buff a scratch out without any problems. Just takes some elbow grease. :D

Here in Idaho, at least at my Wal-Mart, they are fairly decently priced. I got a whole set up; tank (almost 2 gallons), undergravel filter, air pump with tubing and air stone, and a medium sized plant all for just US$20. It also had some fish food with it. ;) but they always have that in the kits...

Of course glass is cheaper, I got a full set up with my 10gal that included a filter that is regularly priced at US$18 for only US$30.

I haven't seen any acrylic tanks around here that are larger than 5 gallons though. So I suppose if you are wanting a small tank, acrylic is the way to go. If you want larger ones, go with glass. I have had no problems with either. The only part of the acrylic one that scratched was the bottom...nobody sees that anyway. ;)

Thanks for your replies guys. ;)

Sticking with glass - me thinks - for now as acrylic does seem somewhat expensive over here.
