I personaly be worried about the thickness,if your adding chambers that could give it more support.But i still be Paranoid about it.Dont use silicone get the acrylic glue(if you didnt know) a hell of a lot better bond.

yes there will be a few chambers and bracings and I've worked out it should never be more than half full, would you go for the 6mm..?

Trust me I am over cautious person(the more the better) and i would definetly go for 6mm as to 4mm,see what other people have to say but i say go for 6mm

I would recommend the 6mm (quarter inch) as well.
 
for my acrylic sump i used IPS WELD ON # 16 cement. stuff works very well .
