Absolutely horrendous!

Not that it couldn’t happen but I’m going to call that video BS. If you were going to throw something away, why would you stack them neatly in the trash. Just someone looking for attention/viral video.

Thats where you look at the second video and all the other cases online...
There have been lots of cases where animals have been found in petsmart/petco dumpsters.
This one had to of been either a SERIOUS mistake or a worker who lost his mind... I mean I could see why it may SEEM ridiculous, but at the rate the world is going, I wouldn't put it past anyone...

And in either case "fake" or not, they are still being put into a dumpster...

I see no dumpster. It's a shipping box of Bettas with the lids perforated... that is odd and unfortunate, but if you're going to show me a dumpster fire, it should be in a dumpster. We got click baited by someone on tictok, and we shouldn't have had that here.

Could have been near or outside the dumpster but yah I see your point...
Still sad no matter what. All those bettas having to be subjected to this...

But what we they being subjected to? Standard shipping? I don't know if Petco ships in cups rather than breather bags as stores often do here, but if we want to buy fancy Bettas, they will be shipping that way.
I own no fancy Bettas and don't intend to ever again, but that's how they get to stores, and not to dumpsters when I look at that video. There could have been a dumpster nearby, yes, but there could also have been a group of unicorn riding penguins...

Still... I just don't think someone would make a video like that without AT LEAST being suspicious of SOMETHING...

I do, @Rocky998 . PETA types produce some very weird propaganda sometimes.
I believe Petchain corporations are destroying this hobby, at least on our continent. I love this hobby, so I am hostile to them and would love to see them collapse. So I can see why the video is one we'd want to believe, although none of us would want that to happen to the fish. Maybe the fish are diseased and someone is too lazy to properly euthanize them. More likely, if it's true, maybe the supplier doubleshipped and there was nowhere to put them. There could be reasons, all of which would be awful, why a store would do that. In corporate fish-selling, fish are called 'units', and units are things we can dispose of. So maybe it could be true. But maybe not.
I've mentioned here that I have unpacked shipments from Asian fishfarms that used Bettas in bags as packing materials. They are dirt cheap fish with phenomenal markups on them, and it would hurt no one's bottom line to trash them in dumpsters. Moral and ethical bottom lines are rare in many businesses.
I'd need to see the dumpster to start. TikTok is a popularity site, and views matter. The Grade 9s in my classes would practice their dances all lunch in the vain hope of going viral someday. People do dumb stunts, and often embarrass themselves in the quest to go viral. Betta keeper outrage is a thing, and if you light that up, you'll get hits.
The jury is out, and the evidence is thin.

I can agree with everything there!!
Although I don't know if I would want chain stores shut down... Just that some live animal sales are no longer a thing from them... They shouldn't have animals in their care.
Cause you can't beat petcos sales on aquariums and some of the supplies petco and pet smart have are cheap and work well... I buy my chemicals and fertilizer for the tank at petsmart cause its the cheapest place I can get it!
So closed down? No... Restricted from selling some animals? Yes

Sadly yes... It has mostly become that... But its a lot more than that to me as far as personal things I won't go too deeply into... But its helped me learn some things about issues I have and trying to correct them. I'm on the side of tiktok where its harmlessly funny things and important information about certain personal issues... Every now and again something weird pops up... But I could say the same for other social media sites as well... Nothing new lol
To me the ban affects me a lot more than just: "Oh no, I'm losing out on entertainment"... Cause while it is that to me at times, it can be a HUUUGE help with other things.
I hate it when people do dumb stuff on these apps, cause it harms the app's rep for no good reason. And the moderaters can only do so much... Then again, every big social media site have lots of people doing dumb stuff... It just takes one search in YouTube or some swiping/scrolling in facebook or twitter to see its not just tiktok lol.

I agree with what everyone is saying. I had gone to pet smart last week and they had a bunch of betas in cups. It looked like a lot of them had fin rot and we’re dying. There water was white and cloudy it was just disgusting. It was then that I said I will never buy anything from there ever again. The thing that is hard is they do have tanks at good prices and supply’s, so I am kind of torn if I should buy anything from there or not. I am thinking I just won’t buy fish and just buy the equipment but the thing that’s hard is they can still use that money to buy more fish to torture. On YouTube there is this guy I like to watch, his channel is called bass fishing products I am pretty sure. He has done a few videos of finding fish in dumpsters behind big box stores. He shows the dumpster and it’s not as suspicious as the one above. It defiantly looks true.
