Absolutely Amazing Fish!

I presume you have the Anableps in an adapted species tank to cater for their specialist needs, i.e slightly brackish shallow water with a sloping substrate leading to a almost dry area?

In Pier aquatics they kept them in a standard community tank with gourami etc. and they definately didn't tell me that they needed special requirements! :/

I am keeping him in a normal community tank but rarely put on the lights because I thought with him having eyes out of the water he wouldn't like them. He eats great and swims about a lot but I didn't have a clue. Thanks for telling me but now I don't know what to do because I don't have shallow water or a brackish tank or sloping gravel or a species tank :X

i have been to peir a few times its a good shop are the prices are great BUT the rays are kept in tanks that are far to small for them as are some of the big cats

the flower ray in the pic has been in that small tank for ages

peir could also spend more time getting their rays onto dead food before they sell them

but peir is a good shop

i have never been to BAS but i have been told all their fish are a gamble and lots die

also that flower ray looks so skinny its nearly dead look at its hip bones showing and the dent between the eyes that shows its not feeding properly

Some lovely looking fish, in some horribly small tanks..... I just hope they have a quick turn over of stock as that ray and some of the big cats look VERY cramped.

The fish and the prices may be very good but I agree that the tanks are far to small for a lot of the fish that they keep in them.
