mollies.jpg

Am i right to be keeping these 2 in the breeding trap, they look pretty fat to me!

im no expert on this sort of stuff...but whenever ive kept pregnant fish in my breeding trap that looked like they could explode any time soon...ive woken up the next morning to find them dead :/

i find keeping them in a tank on their own is much better...doesn't have to be a big tank...but ive had much more success that way,..

but thats just me ;)

I have had success with breeding traps before, 2 of my livebearers now have been fine in them.

Perhaps you dont have enough air at thr surface, or your water is not airated enough to support them in a small space?

I dont keep them in breeding traps for long, i wait till they look desperate to burst, so normally its only one night. However, these are the largest livebearers i have ever had gravid, and i dont know if they are ready to drop or not. They have been in there one night already!

I had two mollies who were gravid at different times, the first one I had in the net for around 2 weeks, and she didn't produce anything, turned her out into tank and she had babies after a couple of days, I've only got one of those left because I didn't find the others.

My other molly was in the breedeing net for around 2 weeks as well, she had around 20 babies and I had all of those survive. The mothers both died right after giving birth. Hmm. As I say, my fish were in the net for 2 weeks, I've since learnt that was wrong, but they were swimming around fatter than yours for aout a week.

salfin girl ... i was reading your signature and ... ar eu really keepign 2 mollies and another fish in your 4 gallon tank!!!! :-( :byebye: :/  thats not good at all i have 2 dalmation mollies ina 10 gallon ... and i fear thats a lil to small

Well, no, thats not whats in my tank. On the box I got the tank in, it said my tank is suitable for 5 large fish (up to 5cm) and about 10 small fish and somewhre in between for middle fish. Can't remeber. Neway, my sister has a bigger tank, so my two adult mollies -lyretail and sailfin are in her tank and in my tank has three molly fry, one silvertip and one head and tail light tetra. I want a bigger tank but I got nowhere to put it! I used to have 4 mollies and a betta in my small tank, and they didn't seem too cramped, the sailfin grew to full size.

When would my molly babies start to breed, out of interest, cos I don't want them to breed. I have 2 males and 1 female.
