Hope you dont mind me posting this under this topic. A while back, maybe 2 or
3 weeks, my son's tank was reading high ammonia. I used the AMMO-LOCK a
couple of times, still got high readings even after several water changes.

Now I've read alot of posts about this product, how it is said to give false readings
and how the bottle states that after using AMMO-LOCK, you will test POSITIVE.

Well I called the manufature of AMMO-LOCK 4 days ago, got a call from them
today. I was told that IF AFTER USING IT, I STILL TESTED POSITIVE FOR
AMMONIA, IT MEANS I REALLY DO STILL HAVE AMMONIA IN THE TANK. All
AMMO-LOCK does, from what I was told, is makes it non-toxic to the fish. I was
also told that with additional water changes, and letting the filter help get rid of the
ammonia, that the levels should come down to 0 over time.

I think some in my view are mis-reading the info on the bottle. Now I've done a few
tests, with tank water which is now 0 for ammonia and added AMMO-LOCK to this
sample. I still got a reading of 0 for ammonia. Even with some water which had
ammonia in it, I got same readings even after adding AMMO-LOCk to sample water.

Now I am not stating fact here, Lord knows I dont have the experiance as some others
do, Im giveing you what info I have found out and the sample tests Ive just done.

If any one has input, please do so.

As far as I know, Ammo Lock will not rid your tank of ammonia, but just change it to a less-toxic/non-toxic state.

However, I tested my tank for ammonia and got a reading with a decent amount of ammonia ( not sure what the exact count was - light green color ).

I then added Ammo Lock, and tested again an hour later. It was a dark blue, way off the charts. It didn't give me a false reading in that it told me there was ammonia in the tank when there shouldn't have been, but rather that there was way more ammonia than there really was.

I stopped adding Ammo Lock, and tested again after two days. Same deal - was reading very, very high.

After a few more days, it finally went down to same light green reading that it had before I added any Ammo Lock.

The tank was in the beginning of its cycling stage when this was done, and tested for NitrItes every day, which always read 0 ( so the lowering of the ammonia content was not because of bacteria ).

My tank continued to cycle normally and is now almost fully finished its cycle.

I also tried using some Ammo Lock after my ammonia spike had reduced and I was back down to reading 0ppm. After using Ammo Lock, tank still tested 0 for Ammonia.

So, from my experiences, I still say that Ammo Lock will give you a false indication if you use it while there is ammonia present in your water. If you use Ammo Lock and your tests say that you have ammonia in your tank - then you do! You probably just don't have as much as what the test is indicating.

My product that got and never used said that the amonia would still register in the tests but that it is in a less toxic form.

These things are meant to be used in an emergency until you can get the situation under control properly.

I have never used them but I have bought one and read the box, which is where I got the above about readings. People go on about it giving flase readings, but on mine at least this is discussed in the intructions.
