I never thought I would have to post a thread in here, but things happen.

My African Butterfly Fish (I have had it for almost 2 and a half years with no problems until now, I bought it at adult size and it has always swallowed crickets this size without problem) has what I believe to be a cricket lodged in its throat/back of its mouth. Its mouth is propped open and as far as I know it isn't eating. It has been like this for about a week.

My question is, should I try to get the cricket out? If so, how could I do that without causing more harm than good to the fish?

Any help will be appreciated, this ABF was one of my first oddballs and marked the start of my Oddball keeping phase, so I would like to save it if I can.

Need to get it out it could be infected by now, you can go through the gill flap or the mouth, sterlise some tweezers, wet a cloth in tank water wrap the fish in it, and then remove the object.

On closer observation, it appears that it is not a cricket causing this problem, the ABF's tongue is swollen and seemingly infected...

I'll do a water change, add some meds, and hope for the best.

Didnt think it would have a tongue.
Can you get a pic?

I'm pretty sure it is a tongue...AbFs are supposedly bony tongued fish, but I can try to get a pic later to be sure :)
