Well, today my midas hybrid had to go back to the LFS because she started being aggressive towards my oscar. It's what's best for everyone... but if that wasn't enough excitement for one day, I came home to find that one of the sunfish I rescued from Walmart wasn't in his tank... I checked behind every plant and under every rock, but he was nowhere to be found... until I check the floor!!!
Apparently he managed to jump through the 2 inch gap where the filter enters the tank.
He was horribly dried out and my first impulse was to flush him because I just KNEW he was dead, but having heard some of the miraculous recovery stories from this forum, I dipped him in the water just to see... and lo and behold, his gills moved!!!! He hasn't moved yet and is breathing rapidly at the bottom... I dunno if he's going to make it or not. :/
******, and I thought fishkeeping was supposed to be a relaxing hobby!! :S

I'm scared that is what I will be getting into once I fill my 120 gallon with fish. :/ But I suppose there has to be some bad that happens. :dunno: Hope he pulls through. My red-tailed rasbora jumped out of a bowl I put him in when I had to change the gravel once. I was there when he jumped out though so he was allright.

Oh my gosh, I don't believe it... he went from dried out carcass to up and swimming around in a matter of minutes! :hyper:
He obviously doesn't feel that great, but both his pectoral fins are working, anyway!

Wow. Whenever one of my fish die, I always feel bad flushing them because I think maybe they were just sleeping...very heavily.  Last month my younger brother's 10 gallon crashed and I had to frantically scoop out the half-dead cories and plop them into my 29 gallon to try to save them. I had to flush them all. I scooped them out and put them in a bucket and was going to flush them all when I saw "One-eyed Jack" (he is an albino cory with one eye, we bought him that way  ) swim around and jump out of the water and back down into the bucket. I checked all of the other cories, but they were all 100% dead. I then put the survivor in my 29 gallon. Some fish just pull through I guess.

Wow Raechal, One-eyed Jack sounds like one tough cory! :D
I'm almost 100% sure the sunfish is going to make it now... I can't believe it! He was so dried out when I found him that his body was stuck in the position he fell in...
Now he's up swimming with the other sunfish and breathing normally!! I wouldn't be able to tell anything had happened if I didn't know...

You got yourself one special fish! :p I felt so happy when I saw the little albino cory swimming back and forth on the 29 gallon. Oh yea, a green cory also made it. But I knew he would make it because he didn't look half-dead in the 10 gallon. Now the two cories are in the 29 gallon with a few other fish. I really should add some more cories to their little group but I already have 7 molly fry that will be going into the 29 gallon until they are big enough to give to the LFS.

I am glad he made it.

Pardon me if I'm missing the point. All I heard was that you chose an oscar over a midas

Glad to hear your sunfish made it,Synirr.

I've had the oscar longer, and he's my little baby... I wasn't as attached to the midas because he was more skittish.

My poor oscar has been looking all over for his "buddy" today... he keeps peeking in the midas' cave like "where is he? :("
He was used to seeing that fish around, so even though it beat the stuffing out of him yesterday, he doesn't understand why it's gone.
He has gotten lots of extra treats (mmm, crickets!) and attention today, poor thing.

I'll hopefully be going to some fish shops in Tyler tomorrow to try and find him a new tankmate... I've decided on either another oscar or a jag.

Aw..I will be getting my baby albino oscar in a week or two whenever my tank decides to finish cycling. :grr:  I am not 100% of what his tank mates are going to be though. :dunno:
