A bit of a pointless post but what are your views on people neglect fish or cram 1000's of fish into small 5 gallon tanks or have fish then get bored and ignore the tank.

Who thinks there should be some law that fines people for these acts.
There are some really neglectful people out there.

What are your views on people who do these things and some people who just buy a fish for decoration of their house and dont meet their requirements at all and abuse there fish.

People seem to forget their life creatures aswell.

Answer away!

These are usually the people that think that fish are an "easy" pet but then they find out that they actually have to maintain the tank and for whatever reason feel they can't be bothered. I think they are probably like this with all pets and shouldn't be allowed the privilege of keeping a pet. I feel a person should have to take some sort of idiot test to own anything that's alive IMO.

I think it's a very sad state of affairs when people overstock, though sometimes over stocking can be caused by lack of proper information. There is a popular website that shows stocking levels of fish, when I put in my wish list it say I had only stocked my tank 20%. It was only on getting some very good advise here that I got a reality check that I couldn't add anymore bottom dwellers to my tank! So thankfully I've stoppted before getting out of hand.

As for people seeing fish as pretty objects, that really bothers me - I detest the term "ornamental fish".

I have had a massive and i mean truly epic fall out with my sister over fish.

She has 2 Black moores in a tank of.............15 litres, thats around 25GALLONS shy  and you can see the tide lines on the side of the tank :-( . It must be several litres short of full and there is not a lot to start with.

I feel bad that Bubbles is sluming it in a 10Gal till his proper tank is cycled, i'm changing the water twice a week due to the nitrate levels, you really don't believe the poo these fish generate till their on sand.

According to her she used the stuff the shop gave her with the tank, put one lot in wait a week and add the second lot then bring the water in for a test.

The shop sold her the tank, the crummy filter and then the fish to go into it. She will not accept that she has done anything wrong, she doesent even posess a gravel vac.

Worst of all apparently i have no idea what i'm doing :X I feel sick every time i see it.

i never had a gravel vac for like 5 month's my fish were fine, then i made one =D

i think people who neglect there tanks shouldn't be allowed to keep fish... i mean totally neglect them. personally im lazy i dont do many water changes just when i think its needed about every 3 weeks (ish). maybe more maybe less. but at least i do them =D
