a. Thomasi are coloring up

My six Anomalochromis thomasi arrived 10 days ago. They are coloring up nicely. The blues are really coming out. There are also reds and yellows. I love the red ring around the eyes.

One of my all time favorite species. Once they start breeding the don’t stop. The one in your pic looks like a young male. The black spots below the dorsal fin indicate that it’s the Guinea morph.

Lovely fish. I hope my guys and gals begin to breed. I should predicate it by saying I hope I have some gals in the mix too. The group of six came “unsexed”.

I usually get a fairly even sex ratio in my broods. With six you should end up with at least one pair.

At what GH did you get spawning?

My water is GH >1<, pH 6.8, 31 ppm TDS straight out of the tap, but the species is pretty flexible when it comes to spawning parameters.

Live Fish Direct. A shop in Utah. Each fish came individually bagged.

They do come in to Montreal sporadically, and if I see them, I'll try to send you a note. Once or twice a year, sold through a guy in Cornwall Ontario who generally specializes in predators.

Thanks so much! I’m in the GTA so I’ll comb through the local stores as well since we have something like 5-6 in just my city with a couple that specialize is different cichlids and you never know

I have to go by there anyway this week lol. I bought lots from them at the Canadian expo a couple weeks ago and they told me to come by to have a look at some tetras I was looking for.
